Dr Steven Sampson, Orthohealing Center presents new research: International Scientific Tendinopathy Symposium in Canada. Treatment of Biceps Tendinopathy in Spinal Cord Injury with Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP).

In a recent study, PRP injections were tried as a treatment of biceps tendon (connects muscle to bone) abnormality in wheelchair-bound patients. These patients were athletes with spinal cord injury that experienced long-term shoulder pain. Patients underwent an ultrasound-guided PRP injection of one shoulder and were followed-up every two weeks for the total of eight weeks. After the 8 weeks, there were improved changes noted in the injected shoulder versus no change in the non-injected shoulder under ultrasound. Additionally, patients reported decreased pain in the injected shoulder and unchanged pain in the other shoulder.
