World’s First Artificial Meniscus Implant from Israel: Potential new option between minimally invasive meniscus repair and total knee replacement
January 20, 2020
The meniscus is a small C-shaped piece of cartilage located inside the knee joint to act as a shock
absorber. Tearing of the meniscus is one of the most common knee
injuries due to forceful twisting in the knee area or from heavy loads. While mild tears may
heal on their own, more extreme cases may need surgical intervention. Doctors in Israel
earlier this year successfully performed a new artificial transplant of a meniscus, adding
another option for individuals unable to undergo or are not responsive to traditional methods.
