O-Shot®
O-Shot: What It Is and What It Treats
A minimally invasive outpatient procedure, the O-Shot® is commonly used to treat a range of women’s health concerns that often arise during and after menopause, including:
- Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (GSM)—dryness, burning, or irritation in the vulva, vagina, and urinary tract
- Painful intercourse (dyspareunia) —enhanced lubrication and improved tissue elasticity can reduce discomfort
- Reduced sexual sensation or difficulty with orgasm—improved blood flow and nerve sensitivity may increase arousal and sexual satisfaction
- Urinary incontinence—stronger pelvic tissue and improved support may help reduce leakage and urgency
- Pelvic discomfort or laxity—treating damaged tissue may help improve strength and function
Dr. Aufiero’s scope of practice includes sports medicine, orthopedics, and women’s health. She is board-certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R), a member of the International Pelvic Pain Society, and a certified O-Shot® provider. As an integral part of her comprehensive, nonsurgical approach to women’s health, the O-Shot® can play a meaningful role in helping women feel confident, comfortable, and empowered at every stage of life. It has demonstrated effectiveness in minimizing symptoms in those for whom hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is not an option or has been unsuccessful. For many, the treatment contributes to a meaningful restoration of balance and well-being during midlife and beyond.
How the O-Shot® Works
This safe, nonsurgical treatment is designed to support women’s sexual and pelvic health using the body’s own natural healing abilities. The procedure involves drawing a small amount of the patient’s blood, processing it to concentrate platelet-rich plasma (PRP), and gently injecting it into specific areas of vaginal and clitoral tissue. As PRP contains powerful growth factors that may stimulate new cell growth, improve blood flow, and enhance natural healing, it can help restore comfort, sensitivity, and function in perimenopausal, menopausal, and post-menopausal women.
