New Research Study Demonstrates Cartilage Regrowth

1200X682_Blog-Graphics_28-Nov-2017_Su_2 The latest research is indicating how the use of fat injection (Lipogems®) can induce tissue regrowth without the need for surgery.  There have been two studies in particular with this result.

The first of the two was conducted with patients (an average age of 69) with severe osteoarthritis (grade 3-4). Patients were treated with fat injection and then tested at 3, 6 and 12 months with MRIs, measuring synovial fluid and more. In nearly all cases, there was a marked improvement. Specifically, more than half, 53.57% of joints recorded seeing an increase in cartilage regrowth of +15% or more. Furthermore, pain reduction was also noted across all patients after 3, 6 and 12 months.

The second study, done at the Sacre Cuore hospital in Calabria, Italy proves the effectiveness of reducing pain. The study is peer-reviewed and has just been published in the Journal of Experimental Orthopaedics. In this study, there were 30 patients, median age of 43. 87% of patients recorded a significant reduction in pain after 12 months.

These studies show how fat from the body can play a pivotal role in growth and repair in painful conditions such as osteoarthritis.

How Does Treatment Work?
Adipose (fat) tissue is taken from the patient and prepared with Lipogems® technology and then reinjected into the patient. These cells then initiate the healing response within the body to detect injury and regrow the tissue.

Due to the simplicity, the procedure takes around one hour and much less invasive than surgery, also leaving recovery time to minimal.
