PRP or Platelet Rich Plasma injections are the concentrate of a patient’s own platelets which are injected into a patient’s diseased tissue. A meta-analysis performed by researchers revealed the differences in the effects of single PRP injections versus multiple injections. When studying the effects of the injections on pain, they found that there was no significant difference between pain improvement by patients who received one or multiple injections after six months. Researchers also decided to examine the effects of PRP on the overall functionality improvement in patients with knee osteoarthritis. After analyzing the data, researchers found that a triple injection series was more effective than a single injection in improving knee functionality after six months. For the full study, click here.
