Angels respond to reports, say doctors haven’t recommended Tommy John for Ohtani

According to a report on thescore.com, Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Angels baseball team received a natural-based injection of PRP and Stem Cells to stimulate healing and potentially avoid surgery.

When baseball players throw at high speeds with limited time for recovery, they are Vulnerable to injuring the ligament on the inside of their throwing arm. Traditionally they receive season ending surgery called Tommy John surgery, named after a baseball pitcher who was able to save his career after undergoing the surgery.

While the surgery is gold standard, there are studies that show some players to never return to their best levels of play. Therefore, finding better solutions that allow a faster recovery and avoiding surgery are needed.
