Safety of Cell Therapy with Adult Stem Cells
June 17, 2013
A new research study group performed a systemic review and meta-analysis of clinical trials regarding the safety of using adult stem cells since the safety profile of these cells is not well known. Meta-analysis of randomized control trials with 321 participants did not detect an association between toxicity, organ system complications, infection, death or malignancy. There was a strong association between utilization of adult stem cells and fever, however. They concluded that based on the current clinical trials, adult stem cells appear safe, but there needs to be larger scale clinical trials in order to define the safety profile of adult stem cells.
