One Man’s Story on How Bone Marrow Concentrate Therapy Saved Him From Total Hip Replacement Surgery

June 12, 2013

If you have osteoarthritis you know how excruciating the pain can be. Former Georgia State Representative John Lunsford was interviewed, describing pain requiring 16 Ibuprofen a day to relieve his pain. He consulted with multiple doctors, all of which told him his only option was a total hip replacement. Lunsford did some research which led him to Emory University for bone marrow concentrate therapy. The Orthohealing Center also performs this procedure. Cells from a patient’s bone marrow are extracted and processed with their platelets. The new mixture is then re-injected on the same day into the problem area. These cells may promote healing and further stability to potentially improve function and avoid a joint replacement. This is a fairly new procedure but the Physicians at the Orthohealing Center have observed very encouraging results. More trials are being conducted to determine which patients and their conditions may benefit most from this procedure.
