Study Proves Benefits of PRP Injections Over Steroid Shots

Rotator cuff tendinopathy, commonly known as shoulder pain, was proved to significantly improve with platelet rich plasma injections over steroid (cortisone)
shots according to award winning research presented from Ireland. The study’s authors concluded that not only are the PRP injections clinically safe, but also cost-effective. There were 204 patients followed for a period of one year. According to the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, at the 12-month follow up, those patients who received a series of PRP injections were 16 times less likely to have undergone surgical intervention than those who received corticosteroid injections. Steroid injections have been known to damage tendons and may promote cell death. The Orthohealing Center has been using PRP injections to improve rotator cuff tears and tendinopathy for the past 6 years with very positive results. More trials are needed to more fully understand the procedure as a whole.
