Custom Made Orthotics—More than just comfort!

Many people use over the counter shoe inserts and orthotics, but do they really work? Much like eyeglasses, we don't recommend that you by them off the shelf at a drug store; but rather you should receive a comprehensive exam with a customized prescription.

We use a combination of cutting edge technology plus the physician's expertise to provide our patients with the most specialized orthotics. The focus is not just comfort, but also to promote muscle reeducation and correct any structural abnormalities that are contributing to improper walking patterns. By correcting leg length imbalances, fallen arches, and adjusting abnormal foot tilts, we can restore muscle balance and prevent injury. Repetitive overuse from the simple act of walking can lead to biomechanical problems at the knee, hip or back.

Patients do not need a specific referral for a gait analysis and can make an appointment for an Orthotic Evaluation with Danielle Aufiero MD, which includes the following:

• Relevant history and basic physical exam to assess subtle anatomical asymmetries
• Evaluation of current footwear and details on what the patient's individual needs.
• Gait analysis with digital state of the art technology that provides quantitative data on a patient's walking trends.

The information gathered from the gait lab is integrated with the patient's symptoms, and a personalized orthotic prescription is created. Approximately 2-3 weeks after the orthotics are ordered, they arrive in our office at which time the patients are contacted for pick-up. Due to the medical benefits of orthotics most private insurance companies (PPO's) cover at least a portion if not the entire cost.
