Wrist

Multiple problems can arise in the wrist and hand. Some of the more common injuries include:

Osteoarthritis: As a result of repetitive overuse and over activity, certain joints are susceptible to injury. Cartilage that protects the joint surface wears down with time. As a way of compensating, the body reacts to create more bone which results in spurring.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome: In between two bones in the wrist, a sheet runs deep and attaches them. Beneath this sheet are multiple tendons and one nerve. This nerve called the median nerve gets compressed with overuse activities including excessive computer use. Patients typically complain of hand numbness in their first three and a half digits and have to shake their hand out in the morning. This results from sleeping with the wrist bent beneath the chin at night. There are multiple treatment options depending on the severity. The degree of nerve injury can be determined by a test called electrodiagnostic study.
