Arthritis
Over 20 million Americans suffer from osteoarthritis, and the number is expected to increase 40% by 2030. As a result of the increasingly active boomer population, we are seeing earlier onset of arthritis than ever before. For example, an active skier tears a knee meniscus 5 years ago and had an arthroscopy and repair. Now after years of compensation and wear and tear, the knee joint has developed arthritis with cartilage loss in the region where the meniscus normally acted as a shock absorber. Patients are increasingly reluctant to have a total joint replacement at such a young age and often have limited alternatives. Therefore we are striving to develop new treatment options, such as PRP Therapy, that alter the biochemical environment of the joint and promote function.
