Common cortisone (steroid) injections for Hip and knee joint pain treatment may be more harmful than you think

Corticosteroid injections are one of the most common forms of treatment for osteoarthritis as it quickly reduces joint pain and inflammation. However, the quick results may be placing thousands of patients in a worse condition in the future. A recent study from the Boston University School of Medicine found that the long term effects of corticosteroid injections may be weakening the joints as the researchers found four main adverse reactions in patients who received treatment: accelerated osteoarthritis progression, stress fractures, bone deterioration, and rapid joint destruction with bone loss.
